Mike’s journey into the meat business started with a simple passion for smoking meats and catering. What began as a hobby, preparing meals for family and friends, soon transformed into a thriving business driven by a desire to provide the highest quality ingredients. “I started out of my house, catering for small gatherings,” Mike recalls. “Seeing people enjoy the food I made was fulfilling, and I wanted to do it more often.”
Mike’s commitment to quality led him to source the best proteins available. Initially buying from local stores, he realized there were better options and began researching quality meat suppliers. This pursuit introduced him to a premium American Wagyu producer and later to top-quality Australian beef. His drive to share this experience with others inspired him to create a small Facebook group where he offered premium and exceptional meats to friends. The Facebook group gradually expanded as satisfied customers invited their friends to join. Eventually, Mike began shipping meat across the United States and even internationally, reaching customers in Canada and Puerto Rico. Within five years Mike quit his day job and Brown’s Top Shelf Meats opened in Westlake Village.
A significant part of what sets Mike’s products apart is his dedication to sourcing meats of exceptional quality. His beef comes primarily from Australia, a country known for its clean food supply and pasture-raised cattle. “In Australia, they don’t use the harmful chemicals that are common in the U.S.,” Mike explains. “Their cattle are raised on natural diets, and the meat is free of hormones, antibiotics, and additives.”
Mike’s commitment to quality extends beyond beef. His shop also offers top-tier seafood sourced from renowned waters of New Zealand, Japan, Alaska, and Norway. “We don’t just have seafood; we have really really good seafood,” Mike emphasizes.
